A Strike in Alabama / Una huelga en Alabama

On April 1, over 1,100 workers represented by the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) went on strike at Warrior Met Coal over a refusal by the mine operator to negotiate in good faith. In 2016, the former operator, Walter Energy, had filed for bankruptcy, and the workers were forced into a contract that lowered pay by an average of $6/hour, increased health insurance costs, and eliminated holidays and time off. With a return to profitability in the final quarter of 2021, Warrior Met Coal was unable to impose another bankruptcy contract on the workers.
